Goa: the Mega Post

one day at the beach for each year of training. ahh...I can feel it working...

Goa was a Portuguese territory for longer than the rest of India was under British rule. Although little of the language has remained, there is still a very strong Catholic heritage and plenty of churches. We took a morning to visit the ancient capital, Old Goa and especially the Basilica of Bom Jesus which holds the tomb of St. Francis Xavier.

While there, A. was climbing a tree and encountered a particularly unpleasant variety of caterpillar. Luckily, some kind locals helped find a pretty effective home remedy to get the prickles out of her skin: threading wasn't working so they scraped them off with a lychee instead. (of course, why didn't I think of that.)
But a few hours of sightseeing in the heat was really plenty. It was time to stop messing around and buckle down for some serious beach time.

aw man, the beach is so nice and sunny. the food at the beach is so nice and pretty. the people at the beach are so nice, they'll scrape your skin with lychees if you need it.

today on the subway i had to listen to a drug addict lie for 15 minutes straight about how he had had a stroke and his four starving children needed me to donate a nickel (or a quarter or a dollar) so they could have decent health care.

WHY DO I LIVE IN NEW YORK????

How did you travel to Goa? My maps shows it to be a LONG way from Kolkata!
